The MRCP Part 2 Clinical Examination, commonly known as the Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills (PACES), is a comprehensive assessment designed to evaluate the clinical knowledge and skills of trainee doctors aspiring to enter higher specialist training, specifically at the ST3 level. To be eligible for PACES, candidates must have passed the MRCP Part 1 written exam within the preceding 7 years. This exam sets stringent standards to ensure candidates demonstrate competence across a range of essential skills and deliver high-quality patient care.

The PACES exam evaluates candidates on their ability to perform crucial clinical skills. It comprises five clinical stations where candidates interact with either actual patients presenting specific conditions or trained surrogates. At each station, two independent examiners carefully observe and assess the candidate's performance.
